A (partial) list of her 560 SL's repairs and upgrades:
Engine compartment:
- Refilled (empty!) brake fluid reservoir.
- Disconnected auxiliary fan plug from defective temperature sensor.
- Glued up hood pad.
- Lubricated heater fan.
- Replaced mottled air cleaner cover.
- Replaced leaking EHA valve (on side of fuel distributor) w/used.
- Replaced stuck-open thermostat.
- Flushed cooling system, changing out generic green for 6 l
of Zerex G-05.
- Glued broken-off driver's-side windshield squirter heater.
- Rebuilt alternator.
- New windshield washer pump grommet.
- New center drag link, Lemforder.
Body:
- Glued down coming-loose weatherstrip behind driver's door.
- Touched up some rock chips.
- Repaired trunk light switch.
- Adjusted hardtop release hook mechanism.
- Repaired hardtop weatherstrip at driver's door.
- Cleaned and lubricated antenna.
- Replaced missing front brake bleeder caps.
- New lower ball joints.
- New idler arm bushings.
- Wheel alignment.
- Glued "560 SL" trunk badge back on.
- Installed keyless entry system.
- Replaced bad low-tone horn.
- Installed new fog lights.
- Repaired crack in air dam.
- Replaced shattered LF turn signal. (Probably a high curb
incident took out all these lights, etc.)
- Replaced incorrect RF turn signal lens.
- Treated surface rust just starting in areas behind the grille.
- New muffler.
- New rear brake pads.
- New antenna mast.
- Installed rear fog light.
- Recentered steering wheel (via turn signal cancellation & tie-rods).
- Glued shattered battery box and lid.
Cabin:
- Cleaned driver's door light switch.
- Removed nasty dash mat.
- Resoldered ACC PB array.
- Replaced fiber-optic source bulb.
- Replaced rotted ACC temperature sensor foam hose.
- Removed cell phone mount and installed cup holder.
- Repaired clock (bad caps and resistor).
- Repaired broken-off intermittent wiper relay.
- Glued back side kick panel covering.
- Repaired passenger's door light switch.
- Cleaned window switches, replaced rockers (legends) with
new-looking used ones.
- Installed Auxiliary (louder)
turn-signal clacker, at hazard
switch.
- New round gaskets for front hardtop retention points.
- Repaired driver's seat glides. Cleaned and lubed too.
- Replaced split-out sunvisor sockets.
- Cured heavy parasitic battery drain at left dome light.
- Cleaned combination switch to fix intermittent headlights. (De-ox-it!)
- Removed cell phone and paraphernalia.
- Separated fog light and low beam circuits.
- Installed rear fog light wiring.
- Disabled over-exuberant factory alarm system.
- Repaired broken windshield wiper linkage.
- Three new vent-control vacuum motors.
- Glued black dash cap over the cracked blue dash.
- Resoldered spastic cruise control.
Still broken:
- Fan temp sensor is stuck on, replace. (Have part already. However
it seems to have repaired itself, it may have just been stuck due
to disuse or an engine wash.)
- Shifter wood surround is cracked.
- Car leaks ATF.
- Small chips out of window frame top molding (foam).
- Missing round gaskets for rear hardtop retention points.
- Brakes throb. That explains the new rotors in the trunk!
- Monroe shocks.
- Rear window defroster in poor shape. (Bad glass.)
- SRS fails self-test.
- Motor mounts are flat, getting frame-on-rails sounds.
- Driver's seat 'soft' on the outside. Broken spring?
